How I approach design challenges

01 Discovery & research

Discovery starts by empathy and understanding the needs of our stakeholders and primary users. This typically includes facilitated discovery sessions and generative research to identify stakeholder needs and conduct focused qualitative interviews to bridge knowledge gaps and interrogate preliminary assumptions.

02 Synthesis & early-phase UX

Synthesis forms the basis for initial user experience materials. Research insights are transcribed, organized, prioritized, and documented to create design artifacts that inform personas, user stories, and experience maps. These assets provide guidance in creating user flows and help support product roadmap decisions.

03 Wireframing & prototyping

Wireframing and prototyping provides an introduction to digital structure, acting as a blueprint and interactive artifact to inform and validate the product design flows. It allows us to interrogate, iterate and revise our design ideas and framework to further accommodate the user's core needs and sensibilities.

04 Evaluative research

As we move further along in the wireframing process, we stand up our assumptions and design flows by recruiting participants and testing prototype flows in a controlled environment. This may be conducted digitally via Zoom and/or Maze, or in-person. The testing output provides insights into edge cases and insights that allow for quick iteration and fine-tuning.

05 High-fidelity design

The UX has been validated through user testing and we are in the final stages of high-fidelity refinement. This process includes the creation of high-fidelity artifacts that define the current and future aesthetic of the product. It may include creating variables, design system components and tokens to create efficiencies across the greater design and development teams.

06 Design-to-development

People often use the term, "hand-off" to describe the design-to-development process. However this is more of a collaborative relay race that occurs throughout the final sprint schedule. We work side-by-side, together to identify design gaps, asset needs and edge cases to build storybook components that maintain design integrity through styling and consistency.

Life & Balance —

Aside from digital design, I love where I live and being outside. This lifestyle fuels the creative and analytical mind.

Hi, I'm Greg. Nice to meet you.
I live in the Boise area. This is my back yard.
I do my own stunts. Sometimes victims friends join me.
Better half would be an understatement.
I love the Red Sox—even when they're awful.
I do hard things early in the morning.
14 hour plane rides are worth the trouble.
There's no such thing as too much time on a river.
My kids are my life—and they know it.
Using empathy, curiosity and collaboration to build meaningful experiences with creative humans.
